Here is how to prepare for your consultation.
Your primary care doctor may refer you to a gastroenterologist, or you may decide to seek specialist care for symptoms that are not improving.
Consider seeing a gastroenterologist if you have persistent abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, heartburn that does not respond to medication, difficulty swallowing, rectal bleeding, black stools, unexplained weight loss or abnormal liver tests.
Conditions such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease and chronic liver disease need ongoing care. Dr. Awan works with you over the long term to keep symptoms under control and prevent complications.
With affiliations at Medical City Denton, Medical City Lewisville and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton, Dr. Awan can coordinate procedures and hospital care when needed.
Some insurance plans require a referral. Please check with your insurance or call our office and we can help you find out.
Bring a photo ID, insurance card, a list of your current medications and any recent lab results, imaging reports or procedure records.
Gastroenterologists treat conditions of the esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon, liver, pancreas and gallbladder.
